On April 15<\/a> and 16<\/a>, Microsoft’s Skills Hub blog<\/a> published two Azure AI certification updates, complementing a broader announcement on AI business solutions credentials released in late March<\/div>\n

Changes in Fundamentals certification<\/h2>\n
The first change evolves the entry-level path.<\/div>\n
Exam AI-900, “Azure AI Fundamentals”<\/a>, retires June 30 2026. Its replacement, exam AI-901<\/a>, keeps the same certification name but raises the bar.<\/div>\n
Where AI-900 required no coding, AI-901 expects basic Python knowledge and hands-on use of Microsoft Foundry, the Microsoft’s unified platform for building and managing AI models and agents.<\/div>\n
Existing AI-900 holders are not affected and keep their certification.<\/div>\n

New Intermediate certification<\/h2>\n
The second addition is exam AI-103, “Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate.<\/a>“.<\/div>\n
Targeting experienced developers, it validates skills across generative AI, multimodal scenarios, agentic workflows, and responsible AI, all delivered through Azure services and Microsoft Foundry.<\/div>\n

Release Dates<\/h2>\n
Both exams are currently in beta, with general availability planned for June 2026. They are part of a larger wave: Microsoft is rolling out multiple new AI certifications across business and technical roles throughout mid-2026.<\/div>\n
Both beta exams offer 80% off to the first 300 eligible candidates.<\/div>\n
